Essen SPIEL'21 without Lookout Games

Essen SPIEL'21 without Lookout Games

Recently, we received a lot of questions if and how Lookout wants to attend this year's Essen SPIEL. Additionally, a first list of attendees has been published ... without us. So, why?

Events are important and very close to Asmodee's heart. We can’t wait for physical events large and small to resume, where we can share the joy of playing with and showing boardgames to the world. In the midst of an uncertain health situation in 2021 despite vaccine acceleration, we continue to take the health and safety of our employees, partners, and players at heart.

As a result, we have made the call to opt out from physically participating at SPIEL in Essen this year.

This applies to Asmodee Group, studios, and Asmodee Germany.

We hope to see you all in person for hours of play as soon as the situation allows!

NEW GAMES 2021: LLAMALAND

Stakes are high in Llamaland

Llamaland cover

A LLAMATASTIC FAMILY GAME BY PHIL WALKER-HARDING

We introduced Great Plains already, now it’s time to present the second release for this summer:

With Llamaland, Lookout brings lots of fun to the family table again, just in time for the holidays. The players find themselves in the plateaus, where it is wild, breathtakingly beautiful and - very, very steep. As a farmer, it is not easy to grow first-class potatoes, corn or cocoa on your terraces. So you puzzle your fields higher and higher, to bring in rich harvest and get hold of precious llama cards!

The latter not only give victory points, but also allow llamas to be positioned strategically. After 45 minutes of playing time you will have an impressive growing area with lots of cuddly llamas and even more victory points in front of you.

Llamaland charmingly combines the polyomino puzzle strategy from Bärenpark and the stacking mechanism of Gingerbread House to create a completely new game with its very own character. The result is a clever placement game for 2-4 players from 10 years.

Like Great Plains, this Lookout game is available from selected shops by the end of June.

The author: The Australian Phil Walker-Harding is designing marvelous games since 2007, including Bärenpark (2017) and Gingerbread House (2018), both published by Lookout Games.

New games 2021: Great Plains

There is definitely something going on in the Great Plains

New 2 player game from the designers of Mandala

Lookout Games is known for successful board game classic like Agricola (2007) by the author Uwe Rosenberg and Isle of Skye (Kennerspiel des Jahres 2016) by Alexander Pfister. In addition to expert games, the publisher also offers simpler family games every year and has developed expertise in the field of 2-person games with titles such as Patchwork, Mandala and Glasgow.

This range will also be expanded in 2021 with a new release: With Great Plains, we take you on a mysterious game about life in the lowlands. Impressive cave paintings tell of the life of our ancestors, of their cosmos and all the animals that surrounded them.

The game transfers us to the Great Plains, where two tribes are on a quest for supremacy. The rival parties are symbolized by clever foxes and wise snakes. With the spiritual assistance of totem animals, they overcome mountains, traverse valleys and sneak into the territory of their rivals. The winner is the player who, through clever tactics, can claim the most land for his tribe in the end.

Great Plains is a history lesson, it makes the conflict between the ancient tribes a playful experience. It is an abstract puzzle game for 2 people, designed for 20 minutes play time. In Germany, the game will be available from selected retailers by July. International availability will follow shortly after.

The authors: Many board game fans know the duo Brett Gilbert and Trevor Benjamin as the designers of Mandala and other popular titles. Trevor and Brett live in the same neighborhood in England and often play and create together. Expect more to come from this creative duo!
